RTL-SDR’S WITH THE R820T2 TUNER AND 2X TELESCOPIC ANTENNA

R820T2 RTL-SDRs on Amazon.com (currently for US customers only sorry!) and are currently running a $2 off promotional sale which will expire January 31, or until the first batch of stock runs out. Compared to the other choices our RTL-SDR Blog branded units come with several improvements which we list below.

  • Use of the R820T2 tuner which has been shown to have slightly better noise performance and give better SNR compared to the standard R820T chip.
  • Use of improved component tolerances which help the circuit to operate at its optimum.
  • Use of a surface mount 28.8 MHz oscillator instead of the “can” type. We believe this will reduce the PPM offsets to below 30 in most dongles, but note we can not guarantee this.
  • Improved “full braid” coax cable on the antenna base which has significantly lower loss compared to the coax used on other brand RTL-SDR stock antennas.
  • Comes with 2 x telescopic antennas. 1 x 9.5 cm to 31.5 cm telescopic antenna and 1 x 20 cm to 1.5 m telescopic antenna. Great for beginners to receive a wider range of frequencies without buying extra antennas.
  • No IR LED. The IR LED is useless for SDR operation and the long legs on the LED may pick up interference.

Motorola Solutions Files Patent Infringement Trade Secret Misappropriation

Motorola Solutions Files Patent Infringement and Trade Secret Misappropriation Complaints Against Hytera Communications

Patent Infringement and Trade Secret Misappropriation Complaints Filed in U.S. District Court

Motorola Solutions is Committed to Protecting its Valuable Intellectual Property Against Illegal Infringement and Copying

CHICAGO – March 14, 2017 – Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI) (“Motorola Solutions” or the “Company”) today announced it has filed complaints in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Hytera Communications Corporation Limited (SHE: 002583) (“Hytera”) of Shenzhen, China. The complaints assert that Hytera’s two-way radios, base stations, repeaters and dispatch systems, as well as its related commercialization and sales activities, are infringing patents owned by Motorola Solutions and utilizing stolen Motorola Solutions trade secrets.

Motorola Solutions believes that Hytera is intentionally infringing its intellectual property and misappropriating its trade secrets, which has enabled Hytera to compete unfairly by bypassing investment in innovation.

Mark Hacker, general counsel and chief administrative officer of Motorola Solutions, said, “Motorola Solutions has a long and distinguished track record of developing industry-leading products and technologies, reflecting our significant investments in research and our commitment to innovation. We are proud to have built an extensive portfolio of more than 4,000 patents, including the patents at issue in these lawsuits, which were developed by Motorola Solutions’ world-class engineers.”

Mr. Hacker continued, “We believe it is clear, and we are confident the Courts will agree, that Hytera’s product portfolio and marketing materials are based on Motorola Solutions’ proprietary intellectual property. Brazen copying and blatant, willful infringement of this sort create an unfair playing field and threaten the industry’s ability to innovate. We will use every means available to vigorously defend the Company’s valuable intellectual property, while continuing to drive innovation and technical excellence for the benefit of our customers around the world.”

Hytera’s illegal behavior was assisted by three engineers who resigned from the Company to join Hytera, where they had key roles in developing Hytera’s infringing products using misappropriated Motorola Solutions technologies and continue in senior-level positions today. In the period leading up to their resignations, through a series of serious misrepresentations and carefully planned illegal acts, these engineers maliciously accessed, downloaded and transferred more than 7,000 highly confidential files related to Motorola Solutions’ technologies, including confidential technical, marketing, sales, legal and other types of trade secret materials. Subsequently, Hytera began illegally manufacturing and marketing a line of products and technologies containing technologies invented, designed, developed and in some cases patented by Motorola Solutions.

Motorola Solutions is seeking to enjoin Hytera’s continued infringement and misappropriation by stopping its sales of key products in the United States and importation of those infringing products into the United States. The Company is committed to ensuring that its intellectual property rights are protected around the world.

DV4home DStar DMR dPMR NXDN C4FM

dv4homesmall img_2153

dv4home

DV4home – Shipping again beginning of December

The DV4home is another member of the successful family of DV4 products. As usual it supports all digital modes, while simplifying and extending the supported functions. While it acts as a “home” for the DV4mini it can be easily used mobile or portable as well. It is a stand alone unit that does not need a PC to operate. (DV4mini not included)

(automatic update of firmware via Internet)

There are 2 versions available, the DV4home and the DV4home compact.

DV4home

The DV4home uses the same microcontroller platforms as the DV4home compact, but adds 2 AMBE3000 chips, a microphone and a speaker connector to the unit. There is a built-in speaker and the microphone is included.

These components allow these additional functions:

  • Direct Internet transceive mode without a DV4mini by using the microphone and the external speaker. This is an economical alternative if no local wireless signal is needed. In this mode the DV4home supports D-Star, DMR, dPMR, NXDN (and later C4FM via software update)

  • Dual mode support: even without a DV4mini inserted the unit can be simultaneously connected to a D-Star and a DMR reflector, using 2 separate speakers to play the respective audio streams.

  • Transceiver mode connects a D-Star or DMR radio via a plugged in DV4mini to a reflector.

  • Conference mode requires a DV4mini inserted into the unit and allows to use the built-in microphone/speaker connectors and the RF connection through the DV4mini to a DMR or D-Star radio. This mode works in D-Star and DMR.

  • Transcode mode allows to use a digital radio in one mode and connect to a reflector in another mode. Use your D-Star radio to try out DMR! The following conversions are supported:

    • D-Star → DMR

    • DMR→ D-Star

  • Later via software update:

    • All –>. Fusion (C4FM)

    • Fusion (C4FM) → All

  • DMR/D-Star Bridge mode allows to interconnect DMR and D-Star reflector rooms using the licensed DVSI AMBE chips. This mode bears the risk of creating loops in the network, therefore a free license key is required which also helps that the installations can be supported by the network administrators to assure a flawless integration.

  • IPSC2 and DMRplus bridge permits the connection between DMRPlus.

DV4mobile digital triband transceiver LTE

dv4mobile

DV4mobile – first all mode digital tri band transceiver plus LTE with GPS

  • The DV4mobile supports all digital modes: no need for multiple radios, saving space and money.
  • It is programmed from the cloud: no need for programming and updating code plugs.
  • It is a software defined radio: future modes are just an update away.

The DV4mobile is another member of the successful family of DV4 products.

It operates in the 2 meter band, at 222 MHz and the 70cm band.

All modes are supported: C4FM, D-Star, DMRplus, dPMR, P25 (NXDN later via software update) Voice over LTE and of course, FM!

C4FM both narrow and wide band modes

D-Star (DCS,CCS,REF,XRF,XLX)

DMRplus (TS1 all / TS2 Reflectors or talkgroups)

dPMR(All Systems and codecs transparent mode)

P25(Phase 1 Only and all NAC transparent mode)

FM with PL and DCS tones and RDS for call sign transmission in the background

DV4LTE is a new voice over LTE mode that connects the radio to the reflector using an LTE connection.

The LTE modem connects to the CCS7 reflector system supplying  codeplugs in the cloud, there is no need to program codeplugs any more. Any changes in the network, be it on the reflector, repeater or user side are instantly updated. Private settings such as local channels can be maintained on the web.

After a reset or with a new radio all settings are downloaded after entry of the CCS7 number.

When no repeaters are in range, the radio can revert to LTE (DV4LTE) for reflector connection (i.e. between metropolitan areas)

The GPS module provides location data for APRS and automatic display of repeaters in range. When a repeater is selected, frequency and mode is already in the radio, no programming!

Simplex repeater mode

The DV4mobile can also be used as a dual band, dual mode simplex repeater.

For example you can use it as a D-Star repeater on 2m and simultaneously as a DMR repeater on 70cm while conducting  FM QSO on 222 MHz (USA version only)
